ETA required for EU citizens. Since April 2025, EU citizens must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to travel to the UK, which costs £16 and is then valid for six months. The application is entirely online or via app, and you should receive your ETA within minutes after filling it out. You should apply here, via the official GOV.UK website. Please do not trust any other websites claiming to do the same!
Venue, posters, reception. The conference venue is Bush House, 30 Aldwych, WC2B 4BG (map). All talks will be held in the Bush House Auditorium BH(N)0, north wing, level 0. The poster session will be in the Bush House Arcade, directly adjacent to the Auditorium, and the reception will be held on the 8th floor.
Registration. Registration will also take place in the Arcade of Bush House (see image below). It is located on the ground floor, at the south (S) wing entrance to Bush House from the Strand. This entrance is immediately north of the church St Mary le Strand, not to be confused with the southeast (SE) wing entrance.
Wifi. You can use eduroam or the King’s College Wifi network called ‘The Cloud’.
Transport. Closest underground stations to the venue are Temple and Holborn. Many buses also serve the area. Note the underground metro in London is known as the Tube. You can use contactless payment for public transport or e.g. buy a weekly travelcard at the underground stations.
Lunch. Many refined restaurants can be found in the Covent Garden area (at least £20).
For around £10, locals often go to the following places: “The Crown” (warm sandwiches/meals and Portuguese pastries, 136 Strand), “Brunel Sandwich Shop” (211 Strand), the “King’s Food” Canteen (floor minus 1 of Bush House), the LSE “Garrick” canteen (Aldwych, north of Bush House) and “Route” cafe (hot meals, £10+, 146 Strand). For meals in the £5 range, the “King’s Food” canteen always serves jacket potatoes with baked beans. There is also the nearby “Greggs” (British bakery chain, 143 Strand) and there are meal deals (sandwich, snack, drink) at the nearby Tesco Express (125 Strand).
On Friday, there is the weekly Southbank Centre Food Market, which is about a 15-minute walk away across Waterloo Bridge from Bush House.
Conference dinner. Please note that registration for the dinner is now closed. The dinner will take place on Thursday at 18:00 at Brasserie Blanc, 60 Threadneedle St, London EC2R 8HP. Please bring your dinner ticket (it will be inside your badge if you registered for the dinner).
